What is the format of the PRINCE2 exams?
Exams aren’t everyone’s favourite thing to do but they are a quick and effective way of getting your qualification. Before choosing to do the PRINCE2 qualification you will want to find out the format of the exams you have to take so you can prepare yourself and you may want to find out the difference between the foundation and practitioner levels also.
If you decide to take your PRINCE2 qualification with us, you will either take your exam:
· Online- after your PRINCE2 training course takes place in your own time using a computer and a webcam- for online proctoring purposes.
· In the classroom- during your PRINCE2 training course
Wherever you take your exams they will both have the same format.
PRINCE2 Foundation Exam
The Foundation level teaches you to understand the key concepts relating to projects and PRINCE2. You will also learn about the PRINCE2 themes and processes and how they are applied and carried out throughout a project.
Exam format of the PRINCE2 Foundation exam
· 60 minute exam duration
· 60 questions
· Closed book
· 33/60 required to pass = 55% pass mark
PRINCE2 Practitioner Exam
This level will teach you how to apply the PRINCE2 principle in context. It will also teach you how to apply and tailor relevant aspects of the PRINCE2 themes and processes in context. The Practitioner certification aims to confirm that you have sufficient knowledge and understanding to apply and tailor the PRINCE2 method in a range of different project scenarios.
Exam format of the PRINCE2 Practitioner Exam
· 150 minute exam duration
· 68 questions
· 38/68 required to pass = 55% pass mark
· Open book exam (official PRINCE2 manual only)
To take the PRINCE2 Practitioner examination you must provide proof of having passed one of the following:
· PRINCE2 Foundation (or higher) - this only applies to certificates obtained after 1 January 2009
· Project Management Qualification (PMQ)*
· Project Professional Qualification (PPQ)*
· Project Management Professional (PMP)**
· Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM)**
· IPMA Level A® (Certified Projects Director)***
· IPMA Level B® (Certified Senior Project Manager)***
· IPMA Level C® (Certified Project Manager)***
· IPMA Level D® (Certified Project Management Associate).***
There are no pre-requisites to take the Foundation exam.
Certification Expiry Date
The PRINCE2 Practitioner certification will expire after 3 years. In order to maintain your qualification and ensure there are no gaps in your Practitioner status, you will need to retake the PRINCE2 Practitioner Exam before the expiry date. The Foundation certification does not have an expiry date.

Currently our average pass mark for the foundation exam is 99% and the current pass mark for our Practitioner exam is 85% (at time of writing this). What if I need to resit an exam?
It’s good looking into this before embarking on your PRINCE2 course although you should try to keep positive about your exam success it is good to consider the what ifs.
